We are privileged people to be living on this magnificent planet. However, if we are to continue doing so, it is high time that we stopped abusing that privilege. Humanity needs to act as a guardian of this magnificent planet, not only for our own benefit, but for the benefit of future generations. We have a moral and ethical obligation to do so.

I believe that my role as a Senator would be to find new sustainable ways for Governments to facilitate a more just and sustainable future.

Some of these would include:

• ratifying Kyoto
• introducing a Carbon Tax
• expanding the Mandatory Renewable Energy Target (MRET) scheme
• introducing legislation that all new houses and buildings have solar hot water, solar power, rain water tanks, and grey water recycling
• tax incentives for retro-fitting existing houses and buildings
• stormwater recycling
• finding safe, clean, power solutions—no nuclear
• rewarding the community through tax incentives for reducing their energy use.
