~ Abel Simonds - Born December 10. 1804 to 1874 ~
Starting with a small scythe shop back in 1832 Abel Simonds along with a
partner started a small business in Fitchburg known as J.T. Farwell and Company.
This partnership lasted until 1851 when Abel Simonds decided to go into business
by himself which lasted until 1864 when he retired and handed over his legacy of
knowledge to his two sons who traded under - Simonds Brothers and Company -
Four years later the business was then incorporated and then traded under the name,
The Simonds Manufacturing Company under the leadership of five Simonds brothers.
Many changes occurred over a long period of time - but this Company eventually
became known World wide and with a reputation second to none.
