Most of these adverts came from " The Wisconsin Engineer "
Others adverts came from " The Badger " another University internal publication.
( The Wisconsin Engineer was Founded in 1896 and was published by The Wisconsin Engineering Journal Association )
In 1922 it could be purchased for 25c A Copy - or $1.50 A Year
and was published monthly from October to May.

Some of the Corliss Engines were used within the University - all being manufactured by the Vilter Manufacturing Company.

This first advertisement was published in 1896. ( The Wisconsin engineer )

This advertisement (1904) is a very good example of the Vilter Cross Compound Engine
powering a generator (right hand side of flywheel)

The two below were also published in 1904.


 

An interesting Vilter Tandem Compound Corliss Engine.

This advert published in 1910 is a good example of the Vilter-Corliss Girder Frame Engine.

 

Note - In both above ( Inspect the Machinery Furnished the University by this Company )

And a few years later this one being published in 1917.

 


 

And a final below being published in 1922.
Which could in fact have been one of the last ones for that era.

 


 


This particular advert was chosen due to it being the longest running advert
in both the " The Wisconsin Engineer " and " The Badger " having well over a ten year span of advertising.

This early Vilter engine can be found at :-

With the advent of the Gasoline engine which was around by this time - the end of the Steam Powered Plants came to an end.
The Vilter Manufacturing Corporation is still around today - very much alive and well - with a History of some 138 Years.

Other Companies such as the FILER & STOWELL Manufacturing Company & the ALLIS-CHALMERS Manufacturing Company
both based in Wisconsin were now looking in other markets for continued business.
