SHE MAKES THE SIGN OF THE CROSS MONDAY 14 MAY 2001
It was so very odd. Today I was crossing Flinders Lane Melbourne, as I stumbled across the road, an Asian lady was sitting behind the wheel of her Ford, waiting for the lights to change. She looked at me as I crossed then made the sign of the cross at least six or seven times. I don't know whether it was directed at me as protection, or whether it was protection for herself. I felt slightly disconcerted, trying to get a visual of what I might look like in a navy suit with a blood red tie and pale blue shirt. Menacing ? Right........Menacing as a hamster on E. I went to the Federation parade, just to get a few photos of the rather interesting floats. The throng of the crowd was quite intense, especially around Flinders Street Station. A mostly Anglo crowd with a good proportion of Chinese. The Dragon was great, as was The Stolen Generation installment, a solemn Pastor sitting in the back of an old truck playing an old church organ, while a circa 1940's white couple in their late 30's walked behind. In between a half caste Aboriginal child. Spooky moaning accompanied the whole display, making the over-all effect quite hypnotic. I liked it very much.
Another parade for a completely different reason, went past us at pleb towers recently. The M2 and S11 activists plus trade unions gave all us corporate slaves something to think about on May Day 2001. While most of the protesters looked at the ordinary folk with disdain, a young baldheaded feral boy asked me if I wanted to join the march, I declined saying" this corporate slave is on a very short lunch break". Another cute little feral child gave me this note................. CELEBRATE TODAY CELEBRATE YOURSELF c Went to the Pier restaurant in Port Melbourne, for a Mothers Day luncheon on Friday last. The place is a totally revamped and renovated Deco Masterpiece. Huge arched windows look out to the sea. I chose the the richest dinner (as per usual for a fat guts) meanwhile my brother made chip sandwidges, we drank 3 bottles of wine. I was finished. School has been a real surprise. I really find I am enjoying the whole process of learning multimedia. The people are great also, a sort of mixed up geeky arty bunch, I fit right in. Learning Illustrator 9.0 at the moment, this has proved the hardest so far, also using Dreamweaver 4 and Flash 5. Flash is a difficultl but exciting none the less. Each day Maude (who is on holidays as we speak) asks me how my day was, (meaning work), my usual droll reply is "uneventfull....as always). There really hasn't been a lot happening. Each morning, I waltz in, say good morning to the goonies, make myself a strong brew, sit down and log in to the corporation, look at St. Patrick's from my exceptional window at my desk, (this is the highlight of the day really), then start going through the motions of doing some work. I suppose it's better than shoveling shite, depending if you like shite or not of course. As I replied to an angry e-mail, I received of late, "we are all opportunists of some kind"
