How to disappear

Where does one start with a title like that ?

Like most of my entries here, it has a lot to do with what has been obsessing me since the last few scratchings here three weeks ago.

To disappear is to have no identity. No taxation file number, social security, birth certificate....anything at all connecting you with a government agency. Every cent you earn from your job, whether it be a part-time one, or the dole. The cheque deposited in the bank. There is always a record at any given time and at every place. There is now an increasing amount of surveillance in most shopping centers and malls. You are tracked continuously by the roaming eye.

To be anonymous is virtually impossible. My workplace has monitoring on every level. Time in availability, jobs taken and how many, what time spent on each, how many a day, a month, a year ? How much time accumulated before annual leave can be taken. There is an enterprise bargaining agreement in most large companies, though the "bargaining" aspect is non-existent.

If I needed to make some extra money on the side apart from my normal job, it would have to be "cash only".

You would need to be in all senses of the word a "dead person". Become like the ghosts walking the inner streets of Melbourne. No name, no address, living in limbo. Without a job or making a "cash only" income and existing with a false persona, in a nameless place.

Poor old Chrissie Skase. He tried to do it and he failed miserably. He should have disappeared into South America's darkest parts, like the fleeing Nazis of Word War 2. He could of turned his business acumen to the existing industry of the area, creating an empire for Pixie and his family of monumental standards. The money alone off that "stimulating crop" earned within a year could have paid back the debt to the Australian creditors.

There are some people who play outside the rules. A good many of them are more successful of because of it. Playing by your own rules calls for arrogance and a certain selfish nature. I like the idea, and wish I had the guts to do it, but I am so locked in now it's impossible not to play the game. To change tack in the middle of your life calls for courage, the sort which I don't have. When your in deep, all you can go is deeper.

To do what you like, is the means to have the time and the resources to do it. One way is to fall into a shitload of money, the other is to attain  flexibility through some other means of intelligent income. The latter once again, is by playing outside the rules.

Nuclear War can be the great neutralizer. A state of pure anarchy forces all to start again. It can wipe the slate clean.

The Archives

The records

all disappear.
