I N T R O |
I began this online journal in October 1998. Originally titled "Melbourne Online Journal of Angst" then shortly afterwards changed to The Hovel. The name was derived after living in a hole in the wall in Malvern, Victoria. A small servant's quarters as part of a large Victorian Federation House, currently being run as a Dentistry. My living space was small but very serviceable, with very high 17 foot ceilings, a strange almost cell like bedroom, ancient little parlor, though a huge bathroom. The place had some sort of presence, though not malevolent. The security alarm in the main part of the house would go off once a week always at the same time. Four am. Contributing to an online journal asks the question of "Why?" and secondly how personal do you make it ? Deciding on a moderate exposure of myself, and heavy on observation. Including my own photography and writing was to get an exchange of ideas and feedback. The use of the Internet for the exposure of a "nobody" highlights a "somebody".
