How the original Morris Garages and MG began:
As the founder of Morris Garages, William Morris (1871-1963) hired Cecil Kimber (1888-1945) as Sales Manager for the company in 1921. The world famous MG marque was founded in late 1924 as Kimber had been building special-body Morris automobiles.
The MG Car Company was formed in 1928. The legendary
Abingdon factory opened in 1929 and didn't close its doors until 1980.
Morris went on to become a famous philanthropist and became known as Lord
Nuffield in 1934. William Morris took control of the company in 1935 and
Kimber left the firm in 1941.
