How it works:

Each diary has a total of 10 points possible for each review. It's broken down into the categories below.

layout etc: (2pts)
Under this category I look at the site as a whole: how it looks, colors, navigation, originality, and themes. Anything can and will fall under this category. Usually well thought out layouts get a 2. When there are a few things going wrong it gets a 1, and when it's hopeless it gets the dreaded 0.

Annoying writing habits: (2pts)
I don't go in search of these, but when something bothers me, I make note of it. If it's really annoying and prevents me from focusing on the content of the diary it will receive a zero straight away. If it's not that bad, a 1, and if there are none to be seen a 2.

Unique: (2pts)
I search for anything that the diary has that is unique or different. Something that makes the writer stand out among online diarists. It's very hard to stand out when there are hundreds of diaries online.

Quotes from the diary: (2pts)

I like including quotes from the diary because they can be used to illustrate something I liked or didn't like about the diary. Plus it gives the reader of the site something to gnaw on before going to read the diary. Points in this section vary greatly on how much I individually like the person's style of writing.

Would I go back for another read?: (2pts)
This is a very subjective point of view. I think it's the main ingredient needed for online journalists that want regular readers. Anyone can make a catchy banner that draws in random people, but the life of a diary is contingent upon regular readers. I can tell if I want to go back and I give the reasons why I would or wouldn't here. Remember that just because I don't like it, doesn't mean others won't.
