The  Australian Storm Chasers/Weather Enthusiasts SMS Contact List provides a central location for storm chasers to leave their contact details. By using  the 1rstwap SMS service users will be able to send free SMS messages from the computer.

Sign Up Instructions

Below are instructions on how to sign up to a free SMS service 1rstwap which you will require to use the SMS contact list. 

Features of the service

  • Send SMS messages from any computer to Mobile (people on your contact list). 

  • Send messages to entire groups of people (requires download of 1rstwap application).

  • Reply to the SMS from your mobile

  • Send e-mails  from your mobile to anyone with an e-mail address.

  • Receive e-mail from your computer (need to have your e-mail client open on your computer)

  • Send instant messenger messages on the computer.

  • You can use a web interface (so you can send messages to your contacts on any computer with an internet connection)

  • Unlimited number of SMS messages.

  • Works with all Australian Networks (Telstra, Vodaphone and Optus tested and working). 

  • You can block users, and don't have to reveal mobile phone number.

Note - any messages sent from your mobile phone will incur the normal SMS charge. Messages sent from computer to mobile are free.

What you Require

  • A digital mobile phone (any phone that can receive SMS messages) 

  • A computer 

  • An e-mail address

How to sign up to the 1rstwap service

Once the sign up page comes up, do as follows...

  • Select a user id, eg. vicstorms  (remember this)

  • Enter a password (remember this)

  • Re-enter password to verify

  • Select your country code, in most of our cases it will be Australia - 61

  • Enter your mobile phone number, but leave off the leading 0. eg. instead of entering 0419000000, enter 419000000.

  • Is your mobile WAP compatible? If it is select yes, it not, select no, it doesn't matter.

  •  If yours is a WAP phone, select the manufacturer. 

The sign-up page should now look something like this

  • Click continue

The sign up is now finished

You will be sent an e-mail and an SMS message. If you get this SMS message you know the service will work. If you don't receive an SMS after a few minutes you may have to sign up again.

You will now be sent to a page that has your Personal Account Data on it. It looks like this...

Follow the instructions on this page

You will need to verify your validation code, this is the number sent to your mobile.

If all goes according to plan you will now be able to login with your user id and password.

Once logged in you will be presented with this page

1. Update account - allows you to view your current settings and change you settings.

2. Update Profile -  is where you can enter information about yourself. 

3. Communities - Are services offered by 1rstwap.

4. User Group - This is where you add contacts, groups and send your SMS messages. This this the heart of the service. 

5. Download - Click here if you wish to download the 1rstwap application for your computer. 

How to Add Contacts and send  messages.

Add Contact (Please note that the other person has to be signed up to the 1rstwap service)

  • Click the Add Contact Link

  • Enter a name for the contact (this can be anything).

  • Now either enter the users Contact ID or e-mail address (only one is required). Make sure you enter the details exactly. Click here for the Australia Storm Chasers and Weather Enthusiasts SMS contact list to add contacts.

  • Select a group for the contact. I suggest a central location for this list ie Australian Storm Chasers/Weather Enthusiasts SMS Contact List.

  • Click Save

Your contact has been added.

Sending a message

  • Expand the group your contact belongs to by pressing the +

  • Your contacts will be listed

  • Click "send SMS" next to the contact you wish to message. Type your SMS message, and press send. Done :)

To test the service add the following contact

Contact ID = nicksykes E-mail = njsykes@yahoo.com

If you do not get a reply in 24hrs re-send the SMS.
