COMMUNITY BROADCASTING STATIONS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Groove FM
Owned
and operated by the Youth Media Society of Western Australia, Groove FM
is a community radio station broadcasting from studios located in
Victoria Park.
The station was
instigated by and for the youth of Perth in July 2002, and was
allocated its permanent licence several months later. Initially sharing
a frequency with another aspirant broadcaster, it began full time
transmissions on 101.7FM in March 2003.
Groove
FM broadcasts to the entire metropolitan area, delivering programs
designed specifically for Perth's youth and student communities. Its
programming format encompasses multivarious music genres to meet the
diverse tastes of listeners aged between 12 and 26.
A
volunteer-based organisation, Groove FM is committed to training young
people in a wide variety of broadcast-related activities, including
management, administration, announcing, production and operations.
The
station also has a community liaison committee to ensure that its focus
on issues such as education, employment, sexuality and health remains
relevant to Perth's youth market.
