COMMUNITY BROADCASTING STATIONS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Meeka FM

Established in 1995 and permanently licenced four years later, 6MKA Meeka FM is a community radio station in Western Australia's isolated Murchison district.

Staffed by less than a dozen volunteers dedicated to providing a local and alternative radio service to the town of Meekatharra, Meeka FM receives significant support from its local Shire.

Initially housed in the Meekatharra High School, the station now broadcasts from studios on Hill Street donated by the Dominion Mining company.

Meeka FM's members comprise people from varied walks of life and differing occupations. The management committee meets monthly to administer the station's operation.

Located at 98.3 on the FM dial, Meeka FM's programs include:

  • Gran's Half Hour - a Saturday morning show for kids
  • Thursday Night Country - the latest country music hits
  • A Wybanga Sunday - the BIG stories on Sunday nights
  • Ugly Phill's Hot Hits - Saturday afternoons from 3pm
  • Loaded - Friday nights from 7pm.

Meeka FM has its own website at www.westnet.com.au/mka. Email meekafm@westnet.com.au
