York FM
York
FM is a local community radio station serving the historic town of York
in Western Australia’s picturesque Avon Valley, 97 kilometres east of
Perth.
Transmitting on 101.3FM, the station
caters to the tastes of its diverse community with a range of talks and
music programs including musical memories, country revival, kiddies
corner, hospital hour, rock ‘n’ roll, solid gold and jazz, jazz, jazz -
especially at festival time.
In fact, the York
Jazz Festival is one of the most celebrated musical events in Western
Australia. Proudly presented by York FM, the York Tourist Bureau and
Jazz Fremantle, the festival showcases the talents of traditional and
mainstream jazz musicians from all over the world.
In
2002, artists included Elite Syncopators from Switzerland, Briar Ross
from New Zealand, the OTT Chicago Swing Band, and Australian performers
Matt Baker, Denise Dale, Sweet & Hot, Lew & June Smith and the
Kalamunda Youth Swing Band.
York FM is also committed to providing programs for York's young people. The station's By Demand program counts down to the ARIA charts each week, and local high school students present a regular alternative music show.
Well
regarded for its support of local events embracing the arts, vintage
motor cars, cultural activities, sport, and garden displays, York FM is
run entirely by volunteers.
