COMMUNITY BROADCASTING STATIONS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

York FM

York FM is a local community radio station serving the historic town of York in Western Australia’s picturesque Avon Valley, 97 kilometres east of Perth.

Transmitting on 101.3FM, the station caters to the tastes of its diverse community with a range of talks and music programs including musical memories, country revival, kiddies corner, hospital hour, rock ‘n’ roll, solid gold and jazz, jazz, jazz - especially at festival time.

In fact, the York Jazz Festival is one of the most celebrated musical events in Western Australia. Proudly presented by York FM, the York Tourist Bureau and Jazz Fremantle, the festival showcases the talents of traditional and mainstream jazz musicians from all over the world.

In 2002, artists included Elite Syncopators from Switzerland, Briar Ross from New Zealand, the OTT Chicago Swing Band, and Australian performers Matt Baker, Denise Dale, Sweet & Hot, Lew & June Smith and the Kalamunda Youth Swing Band.

York FM is also committed to providing programs for York's young people. The station's By Demand program counts down to the ARIA charts each week, and local high school students present a regular alternative music show.

Well regarded for its support of local events embracing the arts, vintage motor cars, cultural activities, sport, and garden displays, York FM is run entirely by volunteers.
