Hetty writes...

It all began on April 27, 1978 when Jeanette got a box of Lego for her birthday.  It was the '40' box of assorted blocks - one of the biggest.  She also got a family of people for the dolls' house - Dad, Mum, boy, girl and grey-haired granny sitting on a bench.  Every night I would count every block and put them back in the little compartments of the box.

We had 3 rules - don't use your teeth to separate the blocks; Lego is an inside toy; and finally, that even if you build the best creation ever the next person can break it up to make something else.

When we were expecting the birth of Jacqui, Pieter announced that he wanted a train set for his 'son'.  However the son never came and when Jac was born he thought he'd get the train set anyway.  I convinced him that if he bought a Lego train the girls could incorporate it into their play.

The foundations of the Stok Lego obsession were laid.
