Above is a photo of a Grey Butcherbird sitting on the telephone wire to our house. Both Black-backed and Grey-backed Butcherbirds live in our area. They frequent the margins of forests, woodlands, coastal and inland scrub, water courses, parkland, gardens and golf courses. A family of Butcherbirds have been living near us for the last few years, entertaining us with their beautiful calls and antics. They are even cheeky enough to steal the food from our poor old deaf cat's feed-bowl!
