The
Raga Dolls Salon Orchestra is a unique group of 14 musicians modelled
on the small scale working orchestras that plied their trade in the
early part of the last century. They perform a repertoire very
much evocative of that era, although in fact most of it is the original
work of the group’s Musical Director David Osborne. The orchestra
has achieved great popularity through broadcasts of their music on ABC
Classic FM, indeed “Waltz No.4” from the orchestra’s “Night Falls” CD
has become one of Australia’s most recognisible and perhaps most
loved classical pieces. They launched their long awaited second CD “Late
Harvest” through ABC Classics with a national live broadcast on the 2nd
of October 2008.
Concert
highlights to date have included a “Sunday Live” performance in the
Iwaki Auditorium broadcast on ABC Classic FM, representing that
station at the ABC 75th Birthday Celebrations in Federation Square
Melbourne and appearing as part of the acclaimed “House Music” Concert
series at Government House in Sydney. The orchestra has made regular
appearances in the Famous Spiegeltent at Melbourne Festival time, the
Castlemaine State and Hume Winter festivals, large outdoor events in
the Fitzroy Gardens and Melbourne Docklands and numerous performing
arts centres in suburban Melbourne and country Victoria. Their
music features regularly on popular TV shows such as the “New
Inventors”. In addition, the orchestra has performed live on TV
Quiz “Spicks and Specks”, Radio National (The Deep End), and on
774 ABC Melbourne (Evenings with Derek Guille).
