Nic Synot

Nic Synot began playing the double bass in Year 11 at the Geelong College. Encouraged by early success, he continued to study bass privately while also working towards a Science/Engineering degree at the University of Melbourne. Upon completion of his science degree, he pursued further private studies with Steven Reeves, current principal bass with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and supported himself with a variety of menial jobs and as much freelance music work as he could garner in a sparse cultural climate. This is pretty much what he does now although he plays much more music than before. He has worked with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the Australian ‘Pops’ Orchestra and numerous semi-professional orchestras. He has premiered works with Chamber Made Opera, and toured Europe as principal bass of the Geminiani Chamber Orchestra. Nic has an active interest in all types of chamber music and wants to climb a mountain someday.
