Evash Cattery (SA)

Evash Devon Rex Cattery was founded in 1990.

Our kittens are raised with plenty of love and attention (even when they pull my flowers out of the vase, or steal my hair ties right when I need them or …) They are carted around by my children, so are very out-going and affectionate – the way a Devon is meant to be and are taught by their mothers from a very early age to pull our poor Staffy into line.
Our cats and kittens have always done well at shows, winning this cattery many end-of-year awards over the years including GCCF of SA Group 3 Breeder of the Year award for 2002 & 2003.
We breed solid colours, bi-colours, spotted and classic tabbies, pointed and mink Devon Rex in a huge range of colours. Our kittens are bred for quality, type, health and temperament. Please visit my website to find out more details about our cattery or email/phone me for friendly advice or to have any questions answered.

Rabeskah Devons (SA)

"Purr-sonality Plus"

Relatively new to breeding cats, we have kept our numbers low with only limited litters a year, and bring up our kittens in the family environment, making healthy happy kittens ready for their new homes with loving owners.

It is our aim to breed Devons of true physical type without compromising on the fabulous temperament and character that really makes a Devon the wonderful cat that they are. Put that together with their truly low allergenic coat and we reckon you couldn't ask for anything better.

Pyret Cattery (WA)

Pyret Cattery came into being in the early 1970's in Spearwood, Western Australia, with Burmese and Siamese, and shortly after I started with the Russians. I spent many years on a breeding programme with my Black Russians and finally, after about five long years got both the White and Black Russians accepted in Western Australia

I started breeding Devons 25 years ago and am still breeding them. When I first started, we had lots of coat problems, but I can honestly say, that with careful breeding, we rarely have coat problems now.

I am an Allbreeds judge with F.C.C.W.A. which is affiliated with A.C.F. I spent 20 years on the F.C.C. Council, 7 years of those as Secretary and Delegate to the A.C.F. Conferences. I am currently the Secretary of the R.A.R.E (Rex, Abyssinian, Russian Enthusiasts) and have always been involved in Clubs in an executive capacity since I came into the Cat Fancy.

I think Devons are a very special little cat, and hope to be involved with them for many years to come.

Most Breeders are prepared to ship internationally. If you are outside of South Australia and don't mind shipping, just contact the specific Breeder.

Most breeders participate in early de sexing, generally at the age of 12 weeks. If you have concerns about the procedure, please read the report of the Winn Feline Foundation.

"Guidelines on what to look for in a kitten"

  • Don't buy a kitten on impulse, no matter how cute it is.
  • Don't buy a kitten from a show or pet shop. It is much better to visit the breeder at home, so you can see where the kitten has grown up. You will be able to see one or both parents, so as to have a better idea what the kitten will look like when it's grown up.
  • The breeder should be willing to take his/her time to talk to you about the breed and how to care for it. Don't feel bad to ask lots of questions!
  • The living area of the kitten should be clean (this doesn't mean each litter tray has to be spotless) & not overcrowded with too many cats.
  • Kittens should be in good condition: not skinny; no rashes; they should not have runny noses or eyes (not to be confused with 'sleep') or be sneezing regularly.
  • Check the kitten's temperament: they should be happy to be handled, not be timid or hissing; be alert and inquisitive. Kittens should be raised with a lot of human contact, not in a secluded area where they don't get much attention. Handling by people from an early age is vital in their socialization.
  • Kittens are generally allowed to go to their new homes at 10-12 weeks of age. They should have had at least one vaccination (make sure to visit your vet to finish the vaccination course) and be wormed. Kittens may already be desexed when leaving the breeder. If not, remember to do this at the age of 4-6 months!
  • If you are interested in showing, remember that a breeder cannot guarantee how a cat will do on the show bench.

Contact the breeder if you suspect any problems, even later on in the cat's life. Most breeders love to hear how their kittens are doing and they should be more than happy to discuss any health or behavioral problems. Remember, they are a great source of experience and knowledge, but they can't help you if they don't know what is going on!

Good luck finding the right kitten! It will be a great addition to your family!
