The Vickers Viscount prototype
first
flew in July 1948 and first entered service in July 1950 with British European Airlines
BEA. 444 aircraft where built the last delivered in April 1964 to China's CAAC.
Central African Airways took first delivery in 1956 and by 1990 when the
last aircraft was retired 14 different Viscounts had been been flown in various
colours.
One aircraft was lost in 34 years of service, apart from those shot
down.

Previously owned by Middle East Airlines and registered as OD-ADD,
it joined Air Rhodesia in July 1970. This aircraft was sold to Trans
Service Airlift, with whom it was still serving in 1999. |
