MAAT

"I am swimming in the water, very tired, for men are lazy...my son ,Geb is he who can elevate my heart...he shall make my heart alive when he has gathered my limbs of one who is very tired"
Atum..."smell your daughter, Maat after putting out your nose so your heart will live...they will never leave you, namely your daughter Maat and you son Shu whose name is life...thus you will feed on your daughter Maat and It will be your son Shu who elevates you"

Maat is the Egyptian god of truth, justice and individual righteous order. There are really two versions of Maat's power. One is the more social version which involves a group of guidelines that were actually found in Egyptian writings. These consist of what is expected of a person if they are to pass on to the afterlife. However , Maat is not just a collection of guidelines as she offers a bigger version of these and ,although she is connected to the afterlife she is most relevant in life at this very moment.
As you evolve metaphysically and personally you begin to realize that these written guidelines start to feel to restrictive as they become to simple for your evolving self. This is where Maat offers another version of herself to you. To take on the truth in your own individual meaning, your own individual life and to define your own justice so you can create individual righteous order from those to elements. It is really the ability to write YOUR OWN guidelines to your own life. This is what you evoke Maat to do.
It is important to realize that Maat in this way is neither good nor evil and nothing is either right or wrong. There are no rules as your really on the beginning of creating your own rules. What it is is your individual opinion of what you think is right or wrong and no body else's. What is destructive or constructive to you. Maat will find you the absolute truth about anything you ask her about and although that sounds easy, it's not. We all live with elements of our lives that we really believe are truthful and when you evoke Maat you find over time how many of these elements are not truthful, that they are just that we thought they were. It's a very powerful experience and not one for the faint-hearted. Maat shows you the truth so you can work out your own individual justice and create an order that is right for that.

Maat in relation to ritual magic on this site

The reason I have included Maat in this section is because I ask Maat to oversee every form of magic and ritual I use. Before I do any ritual I evoke Maat and ask her to bind it to the truth, justice and righteous order. This is a safe guard and what she does is make sure that no innocent or undeserving individuals are affected by my magic. If I release some form of magic in defense, like a ritual to stop someone causing problems in my life, Maat makes sure that it only affects those who deserve it and not the innocent involved. I would recommend you evoke Maat for all rituals and magic you use. I recommend this as I have the experience of her to know her safe guarding of my magic is a much needed element of it.
If you not to sure about Maat, or Egyptian magic you can use something else that your more comfortable with. But the important thing here is to find a way to bind all rituals to something that forces them to be truthful. If you don't you'll end up in more trouble than it worth as it's really not a good idea to perform magic on people who are not deserving it. It can become very complicated. If you use Maat, so bind everything to the truth and make sure it's just and it will present itself in a righteous order. It makes all magic you do efficient and protects you in the process

Evoking Maat

I have an evoker that I use for Maat only. This evoker is a collection of four cords, gold, silver, bronze and black which are about twelve inches long. Each cord has a wooden bead at it's end and they are bound together at the other end by gold wire. What I do when I use it is I hold the bound end and spin the beads in a clockwise motion (consrtuction) and then anti anti-clockwise motion ( destruction).( If you want to use this method you will have to make your own and you can do that in your own style). You can use anything you want as long as it's exclusive to Maat or what ever your evoking.
When I spin this evoker it's gains Maat's attention. I then just ask her can she bind the ritual I am about to perform to Truth, justice and righteous order extending from that.
