Featuring again on May 28th, 2006 Sunday Channel 7 - Coxy's Big Break
Major Mountain Spectacular Flights
Ron Walpole was in the air force for 26 years flying
Hercules aircraft, but now he's come home and is chief pilot for Holiday
Air Adventures, based at Porepunkah and just nine kilometres from
Bright. Usually Ron takes tourists on flights over the Victorian Alps,
but in January 2003 he was hired to spot the fires started by a
lightning storm in north-east Victoria. Today Ron's taking Coxy on a
50-minute flight over the major sights of the region, including Mt
Buffalo, Mount Hotham, Falls Creek and the Bogong High Plains. As well
as the natural beauty of the alpine country, it's also an opportunity to
see how intense the fires were. The 50-minute Major Mountain Spectacular
costs AUD$110 per person for three passengers. You can also do shorter
flights over Mt Buffalo and Bright starting at AUD$45 per person.
