Introduction to the 1851 Census Fragments:
The surviving 1851 census return fragments for fourteen Irish Parishes in the county of Antrim (which including thousands of individuals) were available for free download as text files some years ago and have been made available for perusal on this web site. As far as is known, no copyrights are associated with the files, and they are therefore free for private or public use.
The Webmaster takes absolutely no responsibility for the accuracy, or lack of accuracy, of any of the 1851 Ireland Census text files available through this web site, as he has not been responsible for their transcription from original documents. It should be noted that where the transcribers were not able to read any particular entries, they have so indicated. In any case, these census files are invaluable to family history researchers whose ancestors resided in the parishes listed below.

omitted from this listing by the original transcribes. Omitted information which can be obtained from full
transcriptions of the original Returns includes:
Date of marriage
Literacy
Absent family members
Family members who died since 1841
Religion
To
obtain all of the information available from the 1851 Census you should identify
the family you are seeking, then use their "street address" to
identify a microfilm copy of the surviving Census Return, which you can then
order through any Family History Centre of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints.
Tips for Searching the 1851 Census Text Files (for Netscape Users):
To search a Census Fragment file online, simply click on 'Edit' on the menu bar, then select 'Find in this Page'; or hold down <CTRL> and press <F>.
Then enter the surname or given name, or part thereof, and click on Search.
After the first search, hold down <CTRL>, then press <G> to search again using the same search criteria.
Repeat the process until you have reached the end of the document.
At the end of the document, hold down <CTRL> then press <Home>, to return to the beginning of the document, or click on Return to top of page. Repeat the process again from step 1.
The parishes have been listed below in alphabetical order. Click on a town land to open the particular 1851 Census text file in a new window. Please be patient, as some of the text files are quite large and may take a few minutes to download.
