John Thomas Powell eldest son of John Henry Powell and Frances Ann Carpenter, in later years (c. 1945). Born 1 July 1853 at Mount Moriac, Victoria, Australia, John was to wed Sarah Alice Palmer on 21 December 1898 at Colac, Victoria. Together, the couple were to produce four children, the oldest daughter being Alice May Powell. John passed away on 6 December 1958 at Fitzroy, Victoria, at eighty years of age.

John Thomas Powell and Sarah Alice Palmer at Powell-Siding, Zeehan, Tasmania, Australia (c. 1910). Family sources report that the property, known as a "one acorn lot", was leased by the couple for one acorn per year. Unfortunately, the original lease document was unwittingly given away and its recovery, up to this point, has been difficult.

John Thomas Powell and Sarah Alice Palmer in later years on a raft with their pet dogs, probably at Zeehan (date unknown). The noticeable hunch on John's back was caused after he was hit by a swinging limb while lopping a tree some years earlier in Zeehan.

Alec Thomas (centre), son of Alice May Powell & William Frederick Thomas, poses for a portrait with his grandparents, John Thomas Powell (right) & Sarah Alice Palmer (left) at an unspecified location - probably outside the William Thomas and Julia Emma Bray home at Zeehan, Tasmania, about 1947.

Sarah Alice Palmer and Violet Nellie Powell at the family home (probably Powell-Siding) in Zeehan (c. 1925). Tragically, Violet was to fall victim to polio, dying 29 November 1937. She left behind one daughter, Isabel (pictured below), who was adopted by her sister, Olive Marie (Nonnie) Powell.
