It’s made possible by putting down a ‘hidden’ piece of track, pointing it where you want to view, then putting an ‘invisible’ loco on it.
When the activity starts, you naturally always look out the front windscreen, and this is your ‘camera/viewing’ position.
I’ve made the left / right / headout / passview ‘views’ into different viewing locations, and of course the ‘headout’ and ‘passview’s can be panned side by side.

RouteCam is installed at Greta, on the Up and Down platforms
and on Minimbah Bank near the roadbridge.

Greta: on Down Platform

Greta was chosen as it scenically nice, has curves both ends, and is at the base of a hill.
Because of the curves both ends, you’ll ‘hear’ the trains approach well before you see them (especially as all Coal Road locos have whistles and FULL noise, in A1 mode).

No 1 key

Still in No 1 view
the left and right keys give you views from the footbridge and the roadbridge
|
 |
 |
|
You can also use the 2-3-4 key views as well, although they are not set up for viewing,
so you’ll have to move them to suit yourself.

This locale is one of my favourites, with quick moving down trains
and slow moving Up trains.
The Ups you will ‘hear’ before you see them, and in No 1 view you will also pick out the headlight as the train slowly rounds curve.

There are several ‘routecam’ activities provided, lasting from 20 mins to a full hour.
You don’t have to do a thing, just sit, watch and LISTEN for approaching trains, and ‘get the shots’ like above.
