PRESS RELEASE
SEAN LOUGHREY "PROJECTED IMAGES lV"
Sean Loughrey is an Australian installation artist who works with projections. While in the United Kingdom he has devoted his time to site specific projections that have involved a demolished hotel, a renovrated yacht club and Hadleigh Castle.
All these works contribute in some form or another to the installation at Southwark College Gallery to be executed in August 1989.
The installation, again a site specific work, will be theatrically similar to the previous outdoor projections and will take the form of a shop window display. It is envisaged as a collaged environment, including projections integrating text and image and a series of works on paper.
The works on paper read like signs guiding the viewer into a more intimate inspection. Signs that attempt to engage the viewer with a series of hints, gentle nudges, emptied gestures or silences. Contemplation being encouraged as to the intrinsic elements compiled within the overall space.
The 'site' is situated within Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre, a building aesthetically functional with the primary viewer being the shopper carrying out functional activity.
The Installation will attempt to entice the relunctant viewer via a series of star shaped peep holes allowing them a restricted visualizatisation of the space.
Sean Loughrey's work will be on display at the gallery from Wednesday 2 August until Tuesday 22 August.
