WORKING TITLE : Re-classified spaces and places
This project is part of an ongoing inquiry into coexisting aspects of Australian history. It would be an installation consisting of; a video, a series of artworks seen as units, and personnel commputer accessaries.
Selected pages from a book depicting images of the Australia countryside in the 1950s, are currently being digitally transcribed to canvas (see slides for tests). Transfering the pages to canvas and stretching them gives the pages a greater objective presence The pages transfered are re-presented in a gallery context. Through time and context the pages are now more than ever open to scutiny. The images are romantic, archetypal, outdated, stereotype images, some verging on propaganda.
Seen as units each page would hang together in a particular order with the original book displayed alongside (see diagram). The video would depict current footage of the Australia countryside seen from a more subjective vantage point.
It would be my aim to invite the viewer to revise elements of representation, historically, politically and aesthetically, on many and varied levels.
