(Established in 1983)

Welcome to Sherepoint Flat Coated Retrievers. We are Jean and Ross Bryant and we are located in Williamstown, on the edge of the beautiful Barossa Valley, in South Australia.

Our introduction to the world of dogs came about when we bought a surprise birthday present for Ross in 1977 – a German Shorthaired Pointer from the now famous Heiderst Kennels, and we continued with this breed Showing, Retrieving and competing in Obedience Trials, also producing four litters. But in 1985 we became involved in the wonderful breed of the Flat Coated Retriever - when we bought Ch Sovanna Black Knight (Gleam), a grandson of Ch & Ir Ch Shargleam Blackcap, who was the Best in Show winner at Crufts in 1980. This came about from a chance social visit to Angela and Tony Jenkins of Sovanna Kennels – and it was love at first sight for Jean – a dog at last that just adored you all the time.

Our first Flat Coat was Jean’s introduction to Retrieving Trials. We have trialled five Flat Coats, a labrador and three German Shorthaired Pointers. Showing remains Jean’s hobby, with Ross just an occasional visitor to the show ring. Jean is currently showing three Flat Coa
ts, Jean is a judge for Group 3 Gundogs and Group 2 Terriers, both at Championship show level.  She is also a Trainee for Group 7.

We are both past Presidents of the Gundog Club of South Australia (SA), and held various executive positions in both the Gundog Club and the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of SA Inc, over a long period of time. Ross was an Obedience Instructor for the Gundog Club for many years, as well as being a Committee Member. We have both been involved in managing Retrieving Trials for the Gundog Club and the German Shorthaired Pointer Club. Jean is Treasurer of an All Breeds Club.  We both count it a great honour to have been made Honorary Life Members of both the Gundog Club of SA Inc, and the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of SA Inc.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, as lovers of this wonderful breed we are dedicated to breeding dual purpose Flat Coats that are true to breed type, and have the correct temperament – which make them a pleasure to live with.

To improve the gene pool here in Australia and to allow us to continue breeding we have imported three Flat Coats, two bitches from England and a dog from Scotland.   In 2009 we imported semen from two English dogs - to date we have had one bitch Ch Sherepoint Precious Jade from the Benvellyn semen and one dog Sherepoint Moonraker from the Rainesgift semen.  In 2015 one of our bitches produced a little of nine pups to Rainesgift Over the Moon semen.  We believe in trying to put something back into the that breed we love. Our dogs are part of the family, and spend much of their time in the house. Our own acreage, and three dams, plus access to an adjoining 25 acres of natural wooded foothills – ensure that our dogs are well exercised and able to swim most days. The dogs are walked twice a day over this large area. Now and again they see hares and rabbits, lizards and occasionally kangaroos, or an echidna.

We hope you enjoy viewing our website.
