Smooth is a novel about a teenage boy named Kevin. Kevin has severe acne which deeply impacts his life. Believing that there is no other solution to his acne problem he decides to take a miracle drug which is meant to rid Kevin of his acne. The only problem, the drug has numerous terrible side effects. How will Kevin react to his medication? What will his friends think?

The genre of this book is young adult and it explores the topic of mental health. Kevinís mental health journey is because of his acne and the fact he is growing up. I enjoyed this book because I found the character of Kevin quite relatable. I liked that the book focused on the mental health of teenagers with acne. There are not a lot of novels that discuss these ideas which is why I believe that this was a good book. I would recommend this novel to anyone over the age of 12.  I think that this is the age bracket that is really affected by acne which is important in reading the novel. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to know more about acne or someone suffering from acne.

Laura, age 16
