Girls In Boys' Cars
Girls in Boys Cars is a fast, exciting, and thought provoking coming of age story about two teenage girls embarking on the road trip of their lives, and the adventure that follows. They leave Parramatta in a stolen car and return different people. Over the course of the road trip, they learn more about themselves, each other, and the world around them. The theme of the book is young adult, and I would recommend this book for ages 13+.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The book did take a while to get going, but once it did it was very entertaining. The fact that the book is set in NSW, and the locations are familiar give the book a special quality, making it more believable. Castagna certainly has a talent for writing. The depiction of teenage girls in the book is refreshing and honest, and they are the heroes in their own stories, rather than someone coming and saving them. The book was easy to read, and written as a retelling from the main character, Rosa, helping you connect with her and the story. I would rate this book 4.5/5.
