My Outback Childhood: Growing up in the Territory
Toni Tapp Coutts
My Outback Childhood: Growing Up in the Territory is written by Toni Tapp Coutts, author of the bestseller A Sunburnt Childhood in 2016. She is an Australian writer, born and raised in the Northern Territory. This book is an interesting and heart-warming re-telling of the authorís own childhood.
My Outback Childhood is similar to other books I have read, such as The Girl From Snowy River and A Waltz for Matilda by Jackie French. I enjoyed learning about how the Aboriginal people were treated differently to white people in the 1950s, an issue that featured heavily in the book.
I wish the book included a few pictures to enhance the story. The cover is eye catching and relates to the story well without revealing all the important information. I would recommend this book to readers of chapter books. It would appeal to those who like learning about Australian history, as well as fans of the authorís earlier work.
