Raymie Nightingale by Kate DiCamillo is about a young girl, Raymie Clarke, who lives in a small town in Florida and wishes to win a beauty pageant in the summer. As she gets on with the preparation of the pageant, she learns that life can take a turn when she least expects it. When she joins a class for baton twirling, she not only meets a person who could be a potential threat, but she also meets two girls who will be her friends forever. From having to steal a baton to breaking into a vetís hospital at night, Raymie stays with her friends throughout all ups and downs. When she helps in an old age home, she learns that helping others not only makes them happy but it also gives you peace of mind.
This book targets all age groups who are looking for some light reading that is subtle but connects straight to the readerís heart and mind. Raymie Nightingale is a book about maintaining a balance of friendship, family and yourself. It is about remaining true to yourself and what you believe in and finding out who you truly are and where you belong.
This is a book for people who like to read realistic, emotional stories. It connected with me on a level that not many books can. It helped me to zone out emotionally and mentally from the rest of the world to get some peace and think about the true foundation of life and its importance. This book is recommended to all for a great read and an emotional and mental change.
