Everyone lies whether it is a white lie or a destructive lie. Either way there are consequences, but what if you are not there to face it? Alixandrea has been dating Swanee Durbin, for 6 weeks, who then suddenly passes away driving Alix into a spiral. What could get worse? Alix is in Swan’s room collecting her belongings as she sees a flash on Swan’s cell. L.T…. the secret life. Swan lived with many lives and many lies - her love was potent, possessive and poison yet her two lives became one.
Lies My Girlfriend Told Me by Julie Anne Peters has themes explored throughout today’s society such as grief, lies as well as happiness. I personally enjoyed the writing style making it a smooth and modern read. I loved that the author betrayed hetero-normativity and took the same love approach. This was very brave as many do not accept these actions. The book really shows how bad experiences do not define you. I recommend this inspirational book to anyone above the age of thirteen as the exploration of themes and ideas may not be suitable for young readers. Overall a good read that made you feel warm and welcomed. Happy reading.
