Uglies is a book that addresses the problems people have with themselves, and makes you feel better about yourself because everyone, no matter who they are, has trouble with their image. Uglies goes through Tally’s journey to realise that you can be beautiful and special without being becoming pretty and finding love and friends on the way. Tally’s world isn’t very far off from our own as it would seem. We’ve also been brought up in a way that we think that pretty people are lucky and ‘special’. After all, everyone wants to look their best. And for some people that means cosmetic surgery or going on ‘Extreme Makeover’. I loved this book and pretty much couldn’t put it down. The way the author seems to be able to show you how the characters feel without going over the top is incredible. Anyone who enjoys this book will be dying for the next one – Pretties. This will be a great read for anyone who wants a different look at the world around us, and how we think. It has elements of romance/action and even some freaky gadgets that’ll please every science-fiction fan. Uglies is the perfect book for anyone who has ever looked in the mirror and wanted to change themselves.
