NAMING
A type of Christening, particularly popular with young parents, this saves them from being forced into Church affiliation and feeling hypocritical because they don't belong to that faith or church. Only too often I have seen families go to church for the minimum amount in order to get their child "done"!
It should be borne in mind that this type of service does not stop the children from seeking out their own ideals later in life. It's non denominational aspect is not revolved around words that have no meaning to you or its audience.
Godparents/ Mentors are still sought to help guide a child through the journey of life and in default of the parents assume that role of parents for that child. It is not only an honour, but a privilege to be selected for this role.
The role of the Godparent/ Mentor is one of loyalty and at no time does the Godparents assume the legal identity of the parents by law.
