INFORMATION FOR NEW PUP OWNERS

The Australian Terrier pup that you have received was reared with a lot of love and care.

We wish the pup to happily fit into its new home. The following points may assist you

during the settling in period.

DIET

Pal or Lucky Dog Puppy Dry Dog Food

Pal Puppy (original) tin food.

Breakfast, Lunch and Evening Meal -: Pal Puppy dry dog food mixed in with Pal Puppy tin food. The best proportions for a dog throughout life is two-thirds good quality dry and one-third meat/vegetables. You will have to use your own discretion re quantity. If the pup leaves food, the quantity could be too great, but do keep in mind that the pup is easily distracted, preferring to be with you and to play. Give the pup three meals a day until it is 12-16 weeks, then two meals. It is a matter of choice regarding a one or two meal pattern in the grown dog. Avoid milk. It is important not to change the pup's diet frequently. This will cause digestive upset. Dogs usually enjoy an evening meal, and this helps them to settle for the night.

The Adult Dog should be fed a balanced diet of two thirds good quality dry dog food and one third meat and vegetables, leftovers. Never give dogs onion as they can not digest it. Chocolate should also be avoided.

For rewards try hard baked liver pieces or Smacko's. You will get your dog to achieve wonders when it smells a Smacko.

WORMING -: Since birth, this pup has been faithfully wormed. It is most important that you keep up a worming program. Tablets for worming are best obtained from your vet.

HEART WORM TABLETS -: From eight weeks, it is advisable to commence this treatment.

VACCINATION -: The pup was vaccinated at 6 weeks. At 12 weeks, take pup to Vet for another injection. The final booster will be given at 16 weeks. After this, it is necessary to have an annual booster.

CARE OF COAT

Shampoo – for washing the dog. Most brands are suitable . Do not allow water to get into the ears. When washing the pup, place cotton wool in the ears.

Wiping over the coat with a damp towel is effective in keeping the coat clean.

Grooming – groom frequently with brush, and keep inside of ears clean.

LEAD TRAINING – WALK the pup on your LEFT side for safety.

TO KEEP YOUR DOG SAFE – Some Things to Avoid

AVOID the pup jumping from heights such as chairs and fences while it is still growing.

AVOID the pup receiving rough handling from children. The Aussies love children, but they wriggle a great deal and can be easily dropped. It is better if children sit on the ground when nursing a pup.

AVOID – watch out for Cane Toads. They are poisonous. If the Aussie bites the toad, you have to act quickly. Wash out the pup's mouth immediately with a wet towel, then rinse mouth out with water.. Quck action here should bring control of the situation. Get dog to vet if it shows any effects of poisoning.

AVOID – leaving garden fertilizers, Rat-Sak or other poisons around. Dogs are drawn to the smell of these dangerous products.

AVOID – leaving puppy in any yard that is not dog-proofed.

Hope that you have many happy years with your pup. If you have any difficulties or worries, don't hesitate to contact.
