Llamas are healthy, hardy, mostly self sufficient animals that need little “hands on” care, apart from good grass and a bit of supplementary  food on occasion. They are not “high maintenance” so vet bills are low.  They are shorn once a year, around November, before it gets really hot, and their cria (babies) are generally born in daylight hours before lunch time, without  assistance.

We selected our first two  llamas, Villi and Gaia from our original breeder. From there we purchased a few more,  and eventually, after waiting almost a year (the time a llama takes to have a  “cria”) we had our first Llama born on our property. We called her Gianna.

Her mother was an American import called Aussi Gold. I spent a lot of time during the first 10  days of Gianna’s life handling and touching her to help her become accustomed to human contact, making her particularly  friendly, and able to be touched and petted.

This has really paid off, as she is now  the friendliest llama we have, and will come up to anyone and let them hug her.

Although llamas are very  inquisitive and will walk up to strangers, they are not always able to be touched. Most of ours are “people friendly” and it is this characteristic that we are breeding.

We are fortunate that we can, under supervision, leave our dogs with the llamas, however we don’t leave them unattended apart from with Gianna (our first baby llama) who has been in with the dogs since she was small.

We are breeding for fine wool and friendly temperament, and aim to have short wools as guards/pets (requiring little maintenance), fine wools as pets/wool products, and people friendly llamas as pets/companions. When time permits we take some of the llamas walking and we have even gone on a picnic using our panniers, as llamas can carry up to to 40kgs, depending on their size.

We have a several males could service your female, so please E-mail for more details.

Our aim is to handle all the babies born here the same way we did Gianna, so they will all be used to human touch and have no fear of people.
