The initial interest in researching my family history stared with
copy will of William Hicks Townsend who died at Bristol in 1867.
The will proved a valuable source of information such as indicating
his siblings, his nieces and nephews and specific links to Croscombe,
Somerset. Other family documents included letters containing information
on the Howe and Clarke lines and two Family Bibles, listing many
birth, marriage and death records.
Since starting my research in 1993 I have
used a number of sources including the IGI, immigration indexes,
Census and Birth, Deaths and Marriage records and have commissioned
research. Web search engines have yielded many sources of information
for my long distance research.
By creating this web page and providing
information on my known ancestors I have made contact with fellow
researchers. The generosity of these researchers in providing their
data, sometimes extensive, has enabled me to make great progress
and discover numerous unknown links.
