Bass talk

Gday,

I started playing bass in high school in 1981 & haven’t stopped yet (no wonder I feel so tired). I’ve played all over Australia & several other countries for various artists.

These days I specialise in fretless bass & mainly do recording work & teach bass.

I’m also an audio engineer & have owned & operated 2 companies in the past, The Bungalow Recording Studio in the 90’s & Sarahan Sound (P.A./Sound Re-enforcement).

Between my 2 main musical passions, I’ve worked with artists such as:

Russell Morris

Glenn Shorrock

Darryl Cotton

Jon Dory

Vinyl Replay

Wendy Stapleton

Jim Keays

Elliot Goblet

Black China

etc etc blah blah

I believe that teaching bass should be done by experienced bass players, NOT guitarists who want an extra buck. Guitarists will quickly teach incorrect techniques & help the student learn bad habits (that may not be bad on a guitar, but are irrelevant or incorrect on a bass). For example, even though a car driver & a motorcyclist both drive a vehicle on the road, you wouldn’t get  motorcycle riding lessons from a car driver.

All lessons are done with a metronome as it’s a bass players’ job to keep the drummer honest!

ALL styles taught including slap & fretless.

Homework set is expected to be done & will be checked 1st thing next lesson.

Lessons are 30 mins and having fun is mandatory!!!!
