About the Melbourne Scottish
Fiddle Club
The Club is a group of fiddle fans meeting
monthly to play tunes from Scotland (old and new) and the Scottish diaspora. It’s
a happy group, where everyone is encouraged and anything is possible. Kids as
young as 8 and adults as old as 78 play together in rehearsals and performances
and have recorded a CD "Red Hot Scots" which has had quite a bit of
success at home and abroad (check it out on mp3.com).
Their second CD "reel cool" features 35 fiddlers, including a
representative sample of the Canberra Scottish Fiddlers group, due for release
in October 2002. The CD is a sequel to the highly successful 1999 release
"Red Hot Scots" featured elsewhere on this site, and at http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/66/melbourne_scottish_fiddle_.html.
A special feature of the new CD is the first ever recording of a traditional
Scottish song, by famous Scots Australian singer-songwriter Eric Bogle,
The Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club is open to all comers providing they
play at least a bit. It meets monthly (2nd
Sunday of the month) at St Aidan's Uniting Church, Duggan Street, North Balwyn,
from 2pm - 5pm. Players of all ages are welcomed.
