Recently Sydney has seen a group of eager musicians combine their talents to form the Sydney Scottish Fiddlers. Based on groups elsewhere around Australia and the World, the aim is to promote the enjoyment of playing fiddle using traditional Scottish tunes and techniques.
Just recently we celebrated a year of regular meetings and are adding a second monthly meeting on a more informal basis presently in the same form as the previous Sunday meeting but would like to move to a more informal session style (anybody know of a pub in the City or North Sydney interested?). Sunday meetings have seen varying numbers arrive to keep the tradition alive but we regularly see 12-14 and often more. The group includes members with diverse backgrounds (and diverse instruments) but all with the same aim, to foster and enjoy playing tunes of Scottish/Celtic origin.
The group meets twice a month in Roseville (Nth Sydney) normally on the 1st and 3rd Sunday. Information on the group may be obtained from the organisers:-
Meetings are held in the hall of the New Church, 4 Shirley Rd., Roseville, NSW 2069. The hall is situated around the back of the Church down a set of steps to the left of the entrance.
