| How to get to Swampside
Park By
car: From
North, South and West: Exit Saltmarsh Road at the
Berking turn-off and remember to keep the windows
up when passing the pesticide factory as it is
still under investigation for airborne toxic
contaminants. At the round-a-bout, take the third
exit onto Berking Road and take the first right
after the Asbestos Arms pub into
Swampside Road. Carry straight on for 3km and
turn left at the fishkill in Berking River. The
ground is on the right-hand-side next to the
Berking Clay Target Shooting Club.
By Rail: The proposed rail link to
Berking in 1898 is still awaiting approval and
construction, so travellers can expect delays.
Alternatively, transport can be arranged through
Berking's only taxi. However, visitors should be
advised that the local taxi driver is also a
season ticket holder and is unavailable until
after the match where he can often be found under
a table in the Asbestos Arms.
By Bus: The number 13 from Brisbane runs
along Swampside Road but rarely slows down on
match days due to an overwhelming throng of
brick-hurling home fans.
Local fans are welcome
to use the Rovers courtesy bus located at Berking
Junction. The keys are above the sunvisor.
Parking: There is currently no official
club parking for away supporters, however, local
schools such as Berking Primary School offer
parking for $5. Patrons should be advised that
additional costs may be incurred if you wish the
local schoolchildren to refrain from thieving
your wheels.
Home fans can purchase
season parking at the beginning of the year, but
they sell out almost immediately as there are
only 6 available spaces at the club and the Board
of Directors are entitled to first preference.
Pub Guide: The Asbestos Arms is the
most popular for home fans and is found on the
corners of Swampside and Berking Roads. It is an
excellent venue for the more discerning supporter
who wishes to discuss tactics and mesothelioma.
There is plenty of room inside and a beer garden
can be located out the back if you climb over the
neighbour's fence. Across the road is the Rising
Damp, which is a more traditional local pub.
Families are very welcome here on the proviso
that wives and children are left at home.
Food Guide: The food services at Swampside
are run in-house by the kitchen staff. There is a
huge variety on offer around the ground as the
increased traffic and consequent roadkill on
match days contribute to an already inviting menu.
There are three types of pies available: small,
medium and large. For a more formal meal on
match day you may wish to enjoy executive
hospitality and for more information on this you
can contact Speedy Pizza on Berking
Junction.
Swampside Park is 75% towards the completion of
a total redevelopment that will result in only
2,500 seats and one-third of the pitch being
flooded by seawater during high tides. Recent
funding has also been acquired to improve the
quality of the pitch during the off-season. This
will ensure that Swampside Park continues as the
finest seagrass/saltmarsh playing surface in the
world.
