Breakthrough
|
Nov. 2002. Australia.
Scientists here have announced a breakthrough in genetic engineering by showing off a flock of bigger sheep said to have been produced by laboratory means within the last couple of years.
A glance at the flock seems to reveal sheep of a distinctly clumsy variety, some of which are about the average size, and some are at least head and shoulders taller than the rest.
The researchers tell us that results can be a little unpredictable when it comes to different breeds of sheep and between male and female sheep.
Um....there are also, what appear to be some little drawbacks to this breakthrough, - increased susceptibilities to diseases and parasites, nails grow longer, they need more feeding, and potential customers are thin on the ground.
Offhand, I would say this experiment is not a raging success, - but what do I know?
The really worrying part about this is that, should these people persist in their attempts to produce a massive super sheep and succeed, have they given any thought to the fact that they are going to need a massive super sheepdog to bring them in, as there is no way that a flock of Tyson-esque sheep are going to meekly be rounded up by your average Rover.
