Spanish Inquisition Re-convened, - Torquemada recalled.

   February 2004.

According to recent reports, Hamed Abderrahman Ahmed, a man who has been held in Guantanamo Bay prison compound in Cuba for more than two years, has been returned to Spain to face charges of belonging to Al-Qaeda network.

Sources said the public prosecutor, in Torquemada's absence (he is currently on assignment in Cuba), would seek jail for Hamed as an alleged member of al-Qaeda.

He was to undergo medical, physical and psychological tests for 10 days before being questioned.

Why does this have a familiar ring to it?

"The Spanish Inquisition was particularly terrifying because of its inherent characteristics. The accused never knew who their accusers were."

"The accused was also not allowed to have a lawyer or counsel for  his defense, and the names of all witnesses were kept secret from him."
