Cover Not(e)
When I received my renewal notice for my insurance recently, I was delighted to note that my
house would in future have terrorism cover. Whoopee! Now I don't need to install my own
defence shield.
On further inspection though, my delight was somewhat dampened by the exclusions which
followed the thrilling first sentence. Apparently, this cover would not be in force should the
inconsiderate terrorist choose to assail my house with biological, chemical, radioactive or
nuclear pollution, contamination or explosive means, either directly or indirectly.
So,… what, I asked myself, are the well dressed terrorist's accessories this year?
Having failed to answer myself, I decided to telephone the help desk of the insurance company
seeking elucidation.
The operator who took my call sounded rather at a loss as to the actual scenario which would
result in a payout under this new terrorism cover, but did offer to seek guidance from other more
savvy colleagues.
The result was that "coverage was actually more slanted towards political terrorism".
Political terrorism? Is the government planning on demolishing house which are placed on the
left of the street? The opposition planning on razing houses on the right?
Seems the best option would be to move house to an island, - in the middle of the road!
