Evaluation (Eliza Carey) |

Evaluation techniques are generally used to determine whether or not a program, project, service or social intervention being developed or implemented into a community is successful. Some of the questions an evaluation might ask, is the service in question - meeting the needs of the community and/or specific participants, has the project/program achieved what it set out to achieve, what are its strengths/weaknesses, could it be improved and how might this be achieved. Community psychologists advocate the use of evaluation because they recognise that certain resources in a community may be scarce and need to be used as efficiently as possible. Evaluation can also be used as a tool for accountability. For example, are the funds, time and effort being put into a service worth the outcome, is the intended outcome being achieved, are the people being targeted by the project/program benefiting from it - if not, why not.
