Poetry Writing Competition (2002) - The ABC Meets the Live Poets

As a way of celebrating the ABC's 70th year of broadcasting, we invited supporters to use verse as a way of recording their personal connection with the ABC.

We received more than 20 entries in the open section. Finalists in this section competed for a performance prize at a meeting Live Poets in Lismore on September 18. There were over 20 entries in the secondary section and more than100 entries in the primary section.

Prizes were generously donated by the ABC Centre, Dymocks, Noah's Ark and Uni Co-op Bookstores in Lismore. Judges were Dr Robert Smith and Dr Janie Conway-Herron from Southern Cross University, Neville Jennings, Davis Hallett, Bev Fairley and Anita Laffranchi.

The branch extends its thanks to the Lismore and Tweed-Ballina District Offices of the Department of Education and Training and the Catholic Education Office (Lismore Diocese) for promoting the competition. Class entries were sent in from Clunes Primary School, Catherine McAuley College (Grafton).
