"ABC"
By Amy Carroll
(Murwillumbah Primary School)

Listening to songs is fun
But ABC is number one!
Kids run from everywhere
To watch Kindergarten of the Air.
Taggart, Jeopardy, Argonauts too
Eveybody’s favourite shows,
Just to name a few.
They give us the weather,
They give us the news,
Just while we are taking
Off our old smelly shoes
To get comfy for a whole day of

ABC!

We come from school
Happy and excited
To watch the channel
That got the nation united.
The best channel I know
That never fails
To get our dogs wagging
Their long fluffy tails.
The one and only channel for me
The best one, I call

ABC!

The New TV
by Beau Robertson

The music’s blaring
And mum’s still staring
She’s watching our new TV.
She’s watching the colour
It’s newer than the other
But not to my brother and me.
There’s history in there
For us all to share.
From wireless to radio
From television to tape
Entertainment it makes
And now it’s on DVD
The ABC was always there
When me and mum were in despair
Thanks ABC for the thought and care
WE now know what’s happening everywhere.

Country Hour on the ABC
by Matthew Knight

The stock report gives us all quite a shock.
The prices are down on all the stock.
There has been a lot of dry weather.
Now we have to pull together.
The cost of fed has started to rise.
Has gone through the roof, no surprise.
The men are out with their guns and their Utes.
So watch out, if it’s feral they shoot.
The Radio, The Radio
by Tarryn Thompson
Listening to the radio is pretty fun
But ABC is number one
I listen in the morning
Sometimes afternoon
That’s the kind of station
In want in my room.
The radio’s in the lounge room
In front of the TV
I listen to the radio
It’s my kind of activity.
Happy 70th
by Alethea Campbell
ABC is the place to be
On the radio or on the T.V.
We all run inside
And sit down side by side.
Bob the Builder’s on today
We all watch and stop our play
Everybody will enjoy themselves
And think about little elves.
The it’s time for the weather reports
While all the kids play Argonauts
After that it’s time for tea
With mum and the whole family.

Happy Birthday ABC
by William Corbett

When kids go out for morning tea
Teachers switch on the ABC
The kids are playing Argonauts
Meanwhile, teachers watch news reports.
At lunch Blue Hills is on the air,
While kids are running here and there
Soon it’s time for the old school bus
Kicking up the sand and dust.
They are soon all called in for tea
Sit down and turn to ABC
So come and listen to the news of the day
70 years onwards – Hip Hip Hooray!

The ABC
by Snow Hale

I liked it how you always brought us together,
Now it seems like I could listen forever.
You always told us the best news, affairs and weather.
Great stories we would sit and share together.
I always loved the stories you told,
Especially the Argonauts which is now very old,
But back in my day it was good as gold.

The ABC Past and Present
by Michaela Abram

Hurry, Hurry
Black and white
Watch the Zac Files
Day and nightFashion, Finance,
Weather and news
They’re the things mum
Makes me choose.Kindergarten of the Air
When we were young
Was always there. Now the nation is all here
Happy Birthday
Cheer! Cheer! Cheer!

ABC Rocks
By Jaimee M. Black

We all rush in for the ABC
It’s always a treat for me
With cartoons an, news and weather
Always ready for a new episode of Treasure
After Treasure comes the weather
We listen eagerly as we sit together
Soon after is Horrible Histories
They have some great mysteries.
I am now watching Catdog
They’re running away from a fat rolling log
On now is Angry Beavers
Daggit has a terrible fever.
Now it’s the Rugrats
They’re running around like crazy cats
It’s the end of the day
And we have to stop all the fun and play.

ABC Kids
by Zanthe Ctrichlow

Kindergarten
Of the air
Mum calls the kids
From everywhere.
When it’s over
Mum starts to cook.
The kids all help
Her prepare the chook.
It’s Argonauts
Half hour of fun.
Quick, sit down
It’s just begun.
Argonauts ended
Time for stocks and shares
Dad sits down and listens
As he silently prepares.

The Future and the Past
by Arlie Holt

Time traveling into the future!
Look up here is my picture!
Flying cars!
All fitting bras!
Taxi, Taxi! Taxi!
To the ABC studios I scream
But then I start to dream
Oh what a horror, the studio will close
What a horrible thing
To think of while you dose
I race against time
Trying to keep in rhyme
But suddenly I wake up
And put on my make up
10 dollars, the taxi driver angrily mutters
And I feel as though
I’ll be sick passing fish gutters
I stop at a TV and listen to the weather
And listen through the new version of Treasure
I make my way to the office and demand a seating
Soon I get in and to my shock, horror
……… to be continued!
Don’t you hate it when that happens.
If you really want to hear the rest
Be my honoured guests
Guess what!
I’m the owner and you’re not.

Walking with Beasts
by Lee Cody and Ben Tully

Wide awake
Australian animals
Large and strong
Killing and eating
In the outback
Native beasts
Groaning very loud
Wildly running around
In the dinosaur age
They weigh a lot
Huge and ugly
Big beasts
Extremely scary
Attacking and pouncing
Some are the largest in the world
They are extinct
Sorry to see them gone.

Blinky Bill
by Sam Lara

This little poem is about Blinky Bill
He has helped lots of people and always will
He’s a kind hearted koala who always cares
He’s loving and adorable and always shares.
He’s a cute smiley koala with a big round face
If there’s a mystery to solve, he’s always on the case
Blinky Bill you see is always fair
He’s the hero of the forest, he’s a koala bear

OLD TOM

by Aaryn Melzer

Old Tom is the best
Licking people’s hands
Don’t think Lavinia likes him
Tricks is his middle name
Orange hair and everything
My ideas aren’t as good as his.

Angela Anaconda
by Hannah Craig

Angela Anaconda is really cool
But Nanette Nawar is a drool
Nanette thinks size is the best
but she is really annoying
when something goes wrong
Angela gets the blame
So when she goes on with her friend
She has a band
And everyone claps their hands.

Bananas
by Adrianna Nixon

Bananas are yucky to eat
Amy is a bear
Nanana is a banana
A banana in pyjamas
Nan eating a banana
At the teddies’ house
Sleeping quietly on the couch
In bed at 4.00
Nan washing up for the banana’s teaPutting tomatoes in the pot
(Yet) ate a very big bowl of tea
Jam spilt everywhere on the floor
Amy jumped in to bed
Mum’s waiting in the car
(And)
Soon it is time to go.

ABC POEM
By Samantha Jordan

My name is Angela, Hey Hello!
Welcome to my very own show
I’ll introduce my friends to you
“Oh no!” It’s Ninipoo
Scoobido wa wa
My name is Angela
And you are not Nanette Manwa
On the count of one I am a star
Tra la la. By the way
There’s one more person, I say
I forgot to mention my teachers “Mrs Brinks”
And I have to tell you
That she stinks.

Angela Anaconda
by Bethany

Angela Anaconda has
A funny dad and mum.
She also has a sister
And two brothers that are dumb.
Angela hates Nanette Manoir
And so do her three friends.
Angela, Gina. Johnny and Gordy
Hate Noinny-wart to the end.
Mrs Brinks is Angela’s teacher
But doesn’t like her at all.
She likes to favour Nanettecompoop
And drive Angela up the wall.
Angela just looks normal
She has a freckle or two.
But her imagination is lethal
With what it does to Ninny-Poo.

Building
by Samantha Kelly

Bob the Builder builds big bridges
He builds them so there are no ridges
Bob finds building easy to do
Because he has such a very good crew.
Bob told me “You should do it too”
Non – Noisy – Ness
Wendy is in Bob’s big band
She is always there to lend a hand
When Bob’s gone out
She doesn’t have to shout
Because the trucks are always out.

Cyber Chase Rap Poem
By Scott Keane

Cyberchase is really cool
Always making Hacker a fool.
If you want to watch it, it’s on ABC
It’s all about learning, that’s the key.
Do the Rap, yeh! yeh!
Do the Rap, yeh! yeh!
They’re always saving mother board
From that deadly virus that can cut her cord
With Digit on their side it’s always fun
And when they’re together they’re number one
Do the Rap, yeh! yeh!
Do the Rap, yeh! yeh!
Hey!

OLD TOM
by Shauna Quinn

ABC Netball

by Jessica Robinson

The tune starts to jingle
And your heart starts to beat
The best show will soon tingle
All the nerves in your feet
It’s been on the T.V. now
For “never” too many years
‘Cause mum says she watched it
In her younger years
The commentators start
And we all know their names
Steve Robilliard and Co.
They have some claim to fame
Anne Sargeant of course
Is the one we know best
Played for the Aussies, goalshooter
When they flogged all the rest
Now our own national league
Is up and about,
The Commonwealth bank Trophy
Which was once in doubt
From Phoenix and Kestrels
Sandpipers and Swifts,
Orioles to Ravens,
But the Thunderbirds will lift
On the umpire’s whistle
The game unfolds
You all must just wait
To see what beholds
The play starts to go
From end to end
Striving and pouncing
All trying to defend
Now that it is all over
Everyone has gone home
The stadium deserted
The netball post alone
So next time you’re doing nothing
Why don’t you tune in and see
Eleven and five on a Saturday
The netball on the ABC.

The Cool Daria

by Talia Smith

Daria the show so much to see
Come and sit down and watch it with me
Thursday 5.30 on the ABC.
Daria and jane the best kinds of friends
Whether you think so that depends
Argue they do although their friendship always mends.
Her family are the interesting kind
With a very creative mind
No other like them you will find.

Building Bob’s Poem
by Kristie Oag

His name is Bob
And is always on the job
And his teams running like superb machines
And I’m Bob’s diary and this is what he says
I live in a little town where there’s
So many house around
There’s always some work to be done
So this is what I say
Look there’s Dizzy spinning around
And there’s Scoop digging up the ground
There’s Rolly rolling around
And Ha there’s Lofty lifting Wendy down
Oh Muck please stop mucking around
Can we fix it? Yes we can with the
Team and Bob the Builder man
Oh! And diary just before you say “bye”
I’d like to say
The ABC rocks.

The Saddle Club
by Lisa Jane Simpson

“Bang, Bang, Bang”
“Whoosh, Whoosh, Whoosh”
“Thump, Thump, Thump”
Here comes the Saddle Club.
Oh, I’d love to join the Saddle Club
And be the horse maniacs with them all
I’d love to do the highest jumps
And then cool down the horse.
I think it would be fun to learn riding with Lisa Atwood
And it would also be fun trotting with Stevie Lake
And again cantering with Carole Hanson
At Pine Hollow where Max Regnery teaches.
The Saddle Club is the show for me
Why don’t you come and see?
Mondays at five thirty on the ABC
Bye girls! Great riding.

The Zack Files
By Jessica Hartwig

There was a show on Wednesday
That made me think and wonder
About the equipment we use today
And of the lightning and thunder.
There were some freaky
Experiences a boy did get,
Who else could I be talking about
Except the one and only Zack.
His best friend was a pretty boy,
A real people pleaser
The other one called Spencer was
A real computer geezer.
The girl that seemed
Was always in charge
Was much more of a teaser.
While Zack is more of a normal sort
Who never does anything exciting.
NOT!

Growing up with the ABC

by Joshua Ryan

Growing up with the ABC
Really means a lot to me
Everyday I watched Playschool
But now it isn’t really cool
It helped my brother and me not fight
Because we watched it day and night
I still watch the ABC every afternoon
School holidays will be here soon
I will watch it whenever I like
Just like when I was a little tike.

In the Mood for Rage

by Daniel Winkler

I like Rage
On ABC
My favourite singer
Is DJ Otzi
Every Saturday
I’d lay in bed
To watch Rage
Until I’m dead.
I wake up on Sunday
As happy as can be
To watch Sunday’s Rage.
Noooooooo!
My brother unplugged the TV.

Australian Broadcasting Corporation
by Aimee Beardsworth

I don’t want to go out and play.

Sports
by Callen Arthur

Some people wear Cappa’s shorts
Basketball and Rugby they’re all cool.
I listen to the results while I’m in the pool.

Teletubbies

by Crystal Evans

Over the hills and far away
Guess where I go to play
I go to play with the Teletubbies
Damn I wish I had one of their stubbies.
I keep on wishing that
You’ll never go away
Bye, bye my little Teletubbies
Until another day.

ABC
by Hanna Grimson

When you turn on the telly,
You can see and hear,
ABC, ABC give them a cheer.
They’re definitely the best,
They’re better than the rest
They’re the ABC
There are shows about the future
There are shows about the past,
There are shows about the news
And fiction ones that last
Whatever time it may be
ABC is the channel for me.

ABC
by Tom Morrissey

ABC is really great
I wish I could stay up late
And watch the ABC all night long
And see what happens in Hong Kong.
ABC is really good
It helps me learn about my neighbourhood.
ABC is so cool
It’s better than a swimming pool
The shows help you to learn
To go to the right turn.
ABC means laughs to me
As I turn of the TV
The jokes are cool
The jokes are fun
ABC is number one.

Individual Entries

Face of Australia
by Bradley Michael Norman (Murwillumbah)

For many, many decades,
The ABC has been,
The face of education,
Which all of us have seen.
All children are delighted,
You can see it in their eyes,
Music, puppets stories,
Enjoyed with bright surprise.
Variety, the keynote,
As they present the Arts,
Drama, Opera, Rock and Jazz,
Even comedy for laughs.
Many time throughout the day,
We can see the news,
Australian and world commentary,
Form all points of views.
All the wonders of nature,
Are given to us too,
The forests, mountains, oceans,
And animals, to name a few.
If we should ever lose it,
Where ever would we be,
Without the Face of Australia,
Coming to us on TV.
