The Lone Reporter

by Kim Vidler (Alstonville High School)

The crashing depths of salt sea waves
An ocean liner wrecked,
A populace of foundering passengers
A lone man, circumspect.
He waits in pensive silence
On a wild and hungry sea.
For a coming absolution
To be recounted to the free.
At last the horizon wakens
And all have sought refuge,
The man converses with the lone and the saved
Material for the news.
For this man is a reporter
A solitary fellow,
Not a scavenger as said to be
But deep and warm and mellow.
This night of maritime mishap
A liner now refuse,
He is informing vast Australia
From the desk of ABC News.
This reporter knows excitedly
His job is but half done,
For the television empire
Founded under the blazing sun.

From Ear to Ocularity
By Annalise Hartwig (East Lismore)
Summerland Christian College

With ear and ocularity,
This channel will enjoy.

From here to eternity,
Every girl and boy,
Will turn on that t.v. set
And listen carefully,
At every little single word said on the t.v.

Every mum and every dad,
Will send their kids to bed,
Turn to that t.v. set
And watch carefully.
Every single movement made on that t.v.

Every single family,
Whether big or small,
Will turn on the t.v. set and…
Listen , watch and enjoy much glee,
Every single movement on that t.v.

Occularity means to see,
With ears do we hear,
From Here to Eternity, the ABC we will cheer.

Let’s Celebrate

One fine day seventy years ago
Channel ABC came and began
Creating a relationship with many people
Sharing with weird and wonderful friends. From that fine day on
Australia enjoyed seventy years to view,
A variety of actors and actresses
Including the very old and the new.The variety does not end there
It moves on to the shows,
We see children’s to documentaries
For watching for fun, for learning to know. Now it is time to celebrate
These many broadcasting years
So let’s all begin to party
Sharing laughter and happy tears.

24 hours, seven days a week.
by Caitlin Fahey

I slump down on the couch
Flick the remote to the ABC
The shows I can’t do without,
Can’t do without me.

24 hours, 7 days a week
I don’t worry about the weather
Sunny, cloudy or bleak.
Just as long as the TV is switched on to ABC
Everything on there is right for me.

When on the couch my life’s complete
My life just doesn’t seem right without TV,
The ABC is for me.

Why I love the ABC
by Jaydon Oxley

I like to watch the ABC
Especially when my sister is annoying me
Most of the time she is really hyper
She goes as fast as a dodge viper!
But when I turn on the ABC
She stares at the screen helplessly!
My Nan gets angry because I hog the TV
But then I tell her it’s the ABC!
Then she sits down next to me
And we sit together silently

Why I Love the ABC (2)
by Ellie Grainger

I love the ABC cause the shows all appeal to me.
I love the Tweenies – they’re so much fun
I love Angela, she’s number one.
The Teletubbies are a little curled
But the Bananas rule the TV world.
The news is a little poor
It can be booted out the door
The Bill is tad serious
You can nearly get delirious,
Some of the shows are really smellie
But you can never replace the good old Tele!

Why I Love the ABC (3)
by Meghan Haines

I love to watch the ABC,
Especially when I’m eating tea.
I love Arthur and Pingoo too,
I also like B1 and B2.
I love Angela, she’s number one,
Because her work is NEVER done.
She fights, she screams’
She protest in Tress!
So this why the ABC is BEST,
And that’s why it’s better than all the rest!

The Trap Door
by Daimon Beresford

Somewhere in the dark and ancient regions
Stands an ancient castle.
Deep within this uninviting place lives Bourke.
(HELLO) over-worked servant of the thing up stairs.
(BOURKE FEED ME) but that’s
nothing compared to the horrors that lurk
beneath the trap door for there is always
something down there in the dark, waiting to come out.
Don’t you open that trap door, you’re a fool, if you dare,
Stay away from that trap door,
Cause there’s something down there

Daria on ABC
by Caitlin O’Donohue

In the afternoon of a Thursday,
I grab my cup of tea.
I sit down in the lounge room.
And start to watch TV.

There are tons of shows from 4 til 6,
But there’s one that’s right for me.
Is on at 5 til the clock says 6
I watch Daria on ABC.

The show’s a riot, there’s no other word,
It’s the coolest show around,
It’s funny, it’s cool, it’s better than school
When I watch it my feet leave the ground.

The scene is set in Lawndale High
Where Daria’s friends hang out,
It’s also set at Daria’s home,
Which is all a mess, no doubt.

Her mum is smart and addicted to work
She’s hardly ever there,
Her dad, he stresses over nothing at all,
But ends up losing his hair.

Quinn is her sister, who’s pretty and posh,
She’s the cutest fashion club member,
She’s not very smart but her good looks
Make her one to remember.

Daria’s best friend is Jane.
She totally loves art,
But it’s none other than Jane’s older brother Trent,
Who has always been in Daria’s heart.

Her other classmates are different like,
Everyone at Daria’s school,
There’s Brittany, Kevin, Sandy and Chuck
And others who are even more cool.
