Feedback: I am very angry as to the decision made from the Advertising Standards Bureau, in regards to the Nandos Fix gum/Stripper ad. The Board dismissed the large number of complaints received for this particular advertisement. You can go on their web site and see the reasons behind the dismissal. If this ad is NOT considered to be gender stereotyping or demeaning to women in any way...I don't know what is! What message is this saying to the public about the use of portrayal of women, in this case to be almost naked and be sexually admired and when be..will be paid for in the process. WHAT???The advertisers for Nandos argue, that because the ad features at the start, a women in a business suit, showing to the viewers she is in power and intelligent, they then show the next scene CONTRADICTING the message that was previously presented. They then show the same women working as a stripper/pole dancer. She is topless, barely covering her breasts, wearing nothing but a tiny g-string. Just because they featured a so called buisness women, it DOES NOT make it OK to use Nudity and womens bodies as sexually admirable and available. It brings me to this point. Is the self - regulation of the Advertising Standards Bureau really working for the Australian Community? Or is this, just another bias board who ONLY have the ADVERTISERS concern at heart..After all, have a look at the board members themselves, the majority work in or come from Markerting/Advertising backgrounds...and not to mention the board is funded by the advertisers. Again, HOW IS THIS FAIR ??? and UNBIAS? Who represents us? ( CONSUMERS / COMMUNITY ). Let us voice our concern on how this board is IGNORING the GENDER portrayal of women. Perhaps it is time to take this matter further, raise our concerns as women in today’s society. The self-regulation system is NOT working. The government needs to step in and take a HARSH stance against advertisers. GET RID OF THE SELF - REGULATION !!-Eve P Send your feedback to donotbequiet@iprimus.com.au |
