Resources

Think of any resource that might help you in your fight to survive cancer - and thrive - as being part of a smorgasbord laid out in a beautiful restaurant.

You are free to pick and choose those things that help you and work for you. This is the idea promoted by the Bristol Cancer Help Centre in the UK. They encourage the use of many things such as art therapy, counselling, meditation, massage, support groups, vitamins, but are never prescriptive.

Another metaphor is to regard all these things as tools to use in your battle with cancer.

It's a good idea to use the term "Complementary Therapies", rather than "Alternative Therapies." Complementary Therapies are all the things a cancer patient can do for him or herself, that is, self-help. This self-help complements the treatment they receive from the medical profession; it does not replace it.
