Our Righteous Fr Basil the Confessor

Commemorated February 28

St Basil and St Prokopios were fellow ascetics that lived around the middle of the eighth century, during the reign of Leo the Isaurian (717-741 AD), from whom they suffered many things for the sake of the veneration of the holy icons. They ended their lives in the ascetical discipline.

Dismissal Hymn

You proved to be a citizen of the desert, an angel in the flesh, and a wonderworker, O Bail, our God-bearing Father. By fasting, vigil, and prayer you obtained heavenly gifts, and you healed the sick and the souls of them that have recourse to you with faith. Glory to Him that has given you strength. Glory to Him that has crowned you. Glory to Him that wors healings for all through you.

Kontakion

You took yourself away from worldly turbulence, since you had received God's revelation from on high; and for living righteously as a monk, you received might from grace to heal ills and work miracles, O all-blessed Basil, wise in sacred things.
